sorry folks. I deleted my original post because I felt really self-conscious\embaressed. It struck me that I probably sounded like a total whiner so I killed it.

Sorry Diggum, and thanks Greybeard.

Well,
I used to be a small business owner. I owned and operated a bicycle shop in South eastern Pennsylvania. I closed July of 2008 after my lease was up on the building I was renting. I didn;t see a point in plodding through an already tough economy. Even though I am sad I closed and miss my shop horribly, I'm glad I closed for now.
So, in the interim I work at the Philly airport for Fedex, I am also trying to find a second job, Playing music doesn't pay very much around here so I'm game to do just about anything. Being I am in great shape, have lots of experience managing people and am willing to work my butt off I'm hoping to land a second job doing something.

Don't know what happened Eric, but hang in there man! Things are  tough for a lot of us these days, I haven't been able to work for over a year (not economy related) but we're gonna get through this man! Somehow we will, we just have to stay strong.

Peace,

I am a diesel mechanic and there is still plenty of my kind of work
just a little harder to find
I have been taking a lot of side jobs on cars and boats (anything really)
to keep the bills paid

Things can only get better right?

When I'm home I'm a roofer so the economy as well as the terrible weather in New York lately has put quite a damper on that. I also own a custom drum company that is small enough still that it doesn't really take a hit. Luckily for me I work as a guitar tech for a great national act that has been touring enough that I can still pay the bills.

I got out of the cab of a big rig back at the end of November, by choice rather than circumstance.  I was mainly doing it to help out a friend, & next thing I knew, I was staying out 2-3 weeks at a time, the ol' lady & the kids grumbling at every turn.  What's a dad to do?  I'm lucky, tho', I draw full VA pension (12 year Army vet with w/combat tour, -related injury), so I don't HAVE to work.  I'm always lookin' for side jobs, tho', & that has took a hit.  Back in early 2001, when I was first retired (my wife calls it "re-tard"!), I bought a music store/recording studio from the widow of a friend, got a decent deal, but after 9/11, I didn't make a single sale through the front door until I shut 'em for good in December '03.  Kept the studio gear, & made a s**tload of $$$ on eBay selling nice, quality used guitars, but even that ground to a halt back in late '06.  Now I'm making a little extra spending $$$ doing demos and handyman-type jobs, mostly drywall patchwork and interior painting, but I do get the occassional deck or porch...  Every little bit helps. Well, this topic is still relevant, but my job, pays the bills, it is hard work, but I work with some decent people who ned the Lord, Sometimes I feel like walking out. I work as a mental health technician 36 hours a week and write music reviews for a website in my spare time, not into it as much as I used to be, have been playing my guitar more though. If you pray I would appreciate your prayers, things are rough with my health.

Been in the music business for about 25 years now...I do guitar repairs and retail sales, had have seen ups and downs. Musicians are always in a recession, so I try just to work harder and be careful about what I purchase....I always say "This is a store and not a museum!"
