I just bought the DIY book for the Fender Hot Rod, but before I break out the soldering iron, I want a better idea of what it's going to sound like. What does "more Marshally" really mean? Like a JTM-45? A Plexi? Obviously I'm not expecting to turn it into a JCM800, but I want a better idea of what it will sound like. Right now the overdrive is far too mushy and lacks definition, and rolls off too much bass. Do the mods address this? Thanks for any input anyone has.

It will give it more of a midrangey marshall growl. It won't sound EXACTLY like a marshall, as there is much more going on than just the preamp, but it will get you a step closer in that direction.
Thanks,
Brian

Thanks for the response. I'm not expecting exactly like a Marshall, but "somewhat useable" would be nice  Grin  Does anybody have sound clips of their modded amp?

I have two HRD's and have not modded them.
I do run one of Brian's Super Plextortion pedals and a Fulltone Full Drive 2 Mosfet and I get all of the Marshall type tones I could want.
