Got it ! and ESD question

Hey, Just to say I got the download book (how-to-build-effects beginners) and am really glad to have it and this forum too and I cant wait to get started !
I searched this and got nothin, so here goes ...
I read that Brian likes the metal film caps for the closer tolerance and I read someplace else that ESD can really be bad for these and other items, MOSFET for one, and also that static builds up pretty easy.
I'm setting up a workstation in a finished basement (not too damp or dry) adjacent to but seperated from a washer-dryer etc. How much do I really need to worry about ESD and if need be; what can I do to safeguard against it in a DIY (cheap, i hope) kinda way ? if it matters, my bench is unfinished Birch ply with PVC for legs on carpet.
Thanks upfront !

Welcome. I agree, great book.
My bench is in my garage and also near my washer/dryer. I have never heard about the ESD issue with metal film caps. (I haven't used any MOSFET stuff yet). So, I haven't taken any specific ESD precoutions with any of my parts.
I do usually order all of my stuff from Digikey, and I store all of the parts in the little plastic bags they ship in (Since they are already labeled).

I live in a very dry place (in the middle of a desert) and I don't take any special precautions against static. I have yet to fry something due to static. But I do have wood floors. Synthetic carpets can be prone to making static, which might contribute to the possibilty of something happening.
Anyway, you can get one of those electrostatic wristbands to use if you're really concerned about it. They don't cost that much.
